HOMER (WSYR-TV) Three 20-year-olds have been charged after taking State Police and Sheriff’s deputies on a high speed chase that spanned three counties.

Troopers first caught onto the situation after a multi-county radio alert from the Ithaca Police Department for a stolen vehicle in connection with a gas larceny in Tioga County.

A New York State trooper tried to pull the vehicle over, but the driver continued to ignored the request. The pursuit continued into Chenango and Madison counties and then back into Cortland County.

The chase, which at times reached nearly 100mph, ended when the driver ended up in a ditch after he couldn’t make a turn on State Route 26.

24-year-old Chad Mayhew of Groton, 20-year-old Jonathon Babcock and 20-year-old Samantha Greene, both from Ithaca, were charged with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property.

Mayhew is additionally being charged with Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer, numerous Vehicle and Traffic Law offenses and Reckless Endangerment for swerving the speeding vehicle and nearly striking the Sheriff’s Deputy.
