Manlius (WSYR-TV) -- Many of you have a soft spot for animals, especially the swans in Manlius named Faye and Manny and you want to know what happens to them in the winter when the pond they live in freezes over.

Turns out, the cold isn’t a problem for the swans or their habitat.

Mayor Mark Paul Serafin says the pond is spring-fed and never completely freezes over in the winter. As for Faye and Manny, they are swans of Russian decent and contrary to what you might expect, they thrive in cold temperatures.

DPW crews are also sent out every day – year round – to supplement the swans’ diet of aquatic plants.
