I-81 open after crash in Syracuse

SYRACUSE, NY (WSYR-TV) - A section of Interstate 81 in Syracuse is back open after a tractor trailer rear ended a disabled van on Sunday.

Syracuse Police said it happened at about 6:05 p.m. in the driving lane of I-81 South over East Adams Street.

A 38-year-old man and 37-year-old woman, both from Syracuse, were in the van and were taken to the hospital after complaining of neck and back pain. Syracuse Police said their injuries are non-life-threatening.

That 38-year-old-man, whose name has not been released yet, was ticketed for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the 3rd Degree which is a misdemeanor.

The 24-year-old driver of the tractor trailer was not injured or ticketed.

A section of I-81 South near the crash was closed down for about 45 minutes while police cleared the scene.
