CONKLIN, N.Y. (AP) - A woman has been charged with 16 counts of felony aggravated cruelty to animals after 13 emaciated Dobermans and three dead dogs were found at her Binghamton-area home.

Broome County animal cruelty investigator Tarah Tripp tells The Press & Sun Bulletin of Binghamton that Christine Macan of Conklin had all but four of the dogs in crates, and each crate had about one inch of feces in it.

The dead dogs also were in crates, and Tripp said they had likely been dead for about a year.

Another room in the home contained several crates with long-dead animals.

Tripp said she couldn't make out what they were. Officials became aware of the situation after a neighbor called police late Tuesday night, reporting the smell of feces and dead animals.
