Ithaca Police investigating ‘Jungle’ attack

Ithaca (WSYR-TV) – Ithaca Police are looking for a suspect – or suspects - who slashed and robbed a man in a transient community popularly called “The Jungle.”

They do not know how many people were involved in the attack.

Police say they reported to an incident in “the Jungle” shortly before 2 a.m. on Friday morning.

When they arrived, police found a 57-year-old man bleeding from his neck. Several residents were trying to help the victim.

Police say the man was attacked without provocation while sleeping in his tent. The man sustained cuts to his neck and lower abdomen during the attack. His ATM card was also stolen.

The victim was initially taken to Cayuga Medical Center, but needed to be transported to a hospital in Syracuse due to the severity of his injuries.

Police say the victim is currently in stable – but guarded – condition.
