Watertown (WSYR-TV/WWNY-TV) – The day before multiple raids were conducted in “head shops” throughout Central New York and the rest of the United States, a Watertown father allegedly took the law into his own hands and went on a rampage with a baseball bat at a local head shop.

According to police, Daniel Avery used the bat to break the store’s glass front door and a glass display case and to destroy merchandise at a Watertown Tebbs store.

Avery said that his 24-year-old son was hospitalized after overdosing on bath salts.

The man says that he does not regret what he did and questions why head shops continue to sell substances that have been linked to bizarre and violent behavior.

“I asked him why you give this to kids when you know that it's intentionally going to cause brain defects and cause them to go out and hurt themselves or somebody else and thinks someone is chasing him,” Avery said. “I have to pay for my actions. That's the way it is, but somebody has to do it. It has to stop.”

Watertown’s Tebbs location was among several raided on Wednesday morning.

Avery is facing weapons and criminal mischief charges.
