Chittenango (WSYR-TV) – An elementary school in Chittenango will close its doors after the next school year.
Chittenango Superintendent Mike Schiedo confirmed on Wednesday morning that Lake Street Elementary School will remain open until the beginning of the 2015 school year.
The district’s Board of Education voted 8-0 to close the school.
In order to accommodate the students, two remaining elementary schools will become kindergarten through fourth grade schools, while the middle school will become 5-8 and the high school, 9-12.
While the board was deliberating whether or not to close the school, they cited finances and declining enrollment
