Madison Square Garden has 10 years to find a new location
Syracuse (WSYR-TV) - The New York Knicks and Rangers will have 10 years to find a new home after the New York City Council voted to approve a special permit.
The council voted 47 to 1 to approve the permit that will allow Madison Square Garden to operate for one decade and in that time, management will be forced to find a new location.
The vote came after the arena’s 50-year land-use permit expired earlier this year.
People in favor of the move say relocating the arena will make way for plans to renovate and expand the busy Penn Station, which currently sits below the arena.
