Vernon (WSYR-TV) – Sheriff’s Deputies have arrested a man who they say was driving drunk when he crashed his vehicle into a liquor store on Sunday.

According to the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office, 31-year-old Ruben Gonzalez of Honduras failed to yield right of way and had pulled into oncoming traffic coming out of the parking lot of Pedro’s Restaurant in Vernon when his vehicle was struck.

Gonzalez lost control of his vehicle and it crashed into the storefront of the Vernon Wine and Spirits store.

Gonzalez and his passenger ran away from the scene, but were caught by Sheriff’s Deputies a short time later.

Gonzalez was charged with driving while intoxicated and leaving the scene of an accident. He was also charged with other traffic violations.

He is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
