Man charged for critically injuring 2-year-old child

Salina (WSYR-TV) -- A two-year-old girl is in critical condition at University Hospital after authorities say she was assaulted by a town of Salina man on Monday.

The Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office has charged Sharif K. Hamilton with Assault and Endangering the Welfare of a Child

Detectives responded to a call for an injured toddler at Orchard Estates in Mattydale Monday morning. The child lived at the apartment with her mother and Hamilton, detectives said.

Hamilton was questioned in regard to the child’s injuries and was later arrested. The child’s mother has not been charged.

Hamilton is being held at the Justice Center in lieu of $100,000 cash or $200,000 bond.
