BURDETT, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say they've charged a 25-year-old man with attempted murder after police say he randomly shot at several cars traveling past his home, including a vehicle being driven by the county sheriff.

State police say no one was injured during the shootings and a brief standoff that ensued after Joseph Esposito began firing a rifle early Tuesday afternoon from his house in the Schuyler County village of Burdett, in the Finger Lakes region.

Schuyler County Sheriff Bill Yessman says Esposito shot at his unmarked sport utility vehicle. Officials say Esposito also shot several other vehicles, including police cars.

Esposito surrendered to police after about an hour-long standoff.

He was being held in the county jail without bail. It wasn't known if he had a lawyer.
