Man critically injured in Geddes accident; driver charged
Geddes (WSYR-TV) – Two people were injured when they were trying to adjust the hood of a car while pulled over on Route 695 in the town of Geddes area on Thursday morning.
According to the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office, 21-year-old Brian White of Red Creek had pulled over when the driver noticed his hood was not properly secured. A friend who was following his car pulled over to assist him near Horan Road.
While White and 17-year-old Alex Wershinski of North Syracuse were trying to secure the hood, a car driven by 81-year-old Dorothy McGivern of Camillus struck White’s car.
The two men were thrown about 20 feet onto the side of the road.
Both men were taken to Upstate University Hospital. White was treated and released. Wershinski remains in the hospital in critical condition.
Investigators say that McGivern mistakenly changed from the driving lane to the merge lane and then continued on the shoulder of the road when she didn’t realize her lane had ended.
She was ticketed for crossing hazard/fog line.
