Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – A Syracuse man who was sentenced to nearly a century in prison for raping an elderly woman has been released on bail.

On July 7, State Supreme Court Justices granted Vincent Torres a new trial because his wife was not able to attend jury selection. Torres was sentenced on July 5, 2011 to 97 years in prison.

With the new trial on the horizon, Torres was granted bail and was held at the Justice Center in lieu of $100,000. On Friday afternoon, bail was posted.

The Onondaga County District Attorney’s Office is working to appeal the ruling.

The DA’s office declined to comment on Torres’ scheduled release. The DA’s office only noted that it had asked that the judge not set bail for him.
