Northboro (WSYR-TV) – Wegmans created a stir in New England last fall when it set up its first location in Massachusetts. For some high school students in the Worcester area, the phenomenon
inspired a musical, the Worcester Telegram reports.
Students at Algonquin Regional High School in Northboro told the local publication that the musical “is a celebration of Wegmans.”
The popular grocery chain is a mainstay for Western and Central New Yorkers. But when it arrived in the Worcester area, residents camped out overnight in anticipation of the store’s opening and a couple became engaged in at the store’s café aisle, according to the paper.
The story began as an improv exercise set in a 12-items-or-less line. Shortly after that teachers and students expanded the narrative into a full comedic musical.
The performance is scheduled for May 10. The school does not anticipate taking its show on the road, according to the Telegram.
