Clouds will continue to dominate this afternoon with spotty flurries or freezing drizzle possible. We’ll likely have some partial clearing tonight before our next begins to impact our region.
That next system is low pressure, currently over the lower and mid Mississippi Valley region. This storm is forecast to move northeast and eventually off the Mid-Atlantic/Northeast Coast Saturday night. This storm is forecast to move farther southeast than the storm that impacted the region earlier in the week. Also, this storm is forecast to be weaker. Consequently, we’re not expecting a significant snowfall…probably in the 2-5” range by midnight Sunday (late Saturday night).
It should be noted, if you’re headed to NYC for the Pinstripe Bowl, accumulating snow is likely there as well Saturday, probably on the order of 2-5”.
Colder air will work into Central New York for Sunday as the storm departs off the East Coast. The colder air may trigger lake effect snow showers, though at this time significant snowfall is not anticipated. Looking ahead toward the end of 2012 and start of 2013, snow showers are in the forecast as an arctic cold front looks to move into the region. Were this to materialize, then a shot of cold air would be here by New Year’s Day as well as the threat for lake effect snow showers.
