State Fair announces three Chevy Court acts

Syracuse (WSYR-TV) - The legendary Four Tops, country music star Sara Evans, and alternative rock band Switchfoot are some of the dozens of acts that have been scheduled to play on Chevy Court at this year's New York State Fair.

The State Fair says it is part of a new effort to offer twice as much national entertainment for the regular price of Fair admission.

The three performers are the first of about two dozen national acts that will be announced over the next two months for Chevy Court, which is free for anyone attending. The Fair says in 2008, eleven national acts – fewer than half of what is planned for 2009 – played the venue.

Evans will sing on Sunday, Aug. 30; The Four Tops will play on Monday, Aug. 31; and Switchfoot will play on Friday, Sept. 4. All three acts will play at 8 p.m. on Chevy Court, with a different national artist performing at 2 p.m. on the same stage.

In the past, the same artist performed two concerts on Chevy Court, one in the afternoon and one in the evening.

Earlier this year, the Fair decided to reduce the number of paid concerts at the grandstand from 11 to seven, and dedicated more resources to hiring performers for Chevy Court. (scroll down to read our previous coverage).

All Chevy Court concerts are included in the price of Fair admission. The Fair says ticket prices, $6 in advance, $10 at the gate – will not be increased for 2009.

The Fair says the expanded format at Chevy Court will allow the Fair to offer a more diversified lineup of entertainment. The afternoon concerts will tend to be aimed more at seniors and families; the evenings will feature adult-oriented performances from a wide range of genres.

Kenny Chesney to play at New York State Fair

Geddes (WSYR-TV) – Kenny Chesney, the country superstar who was one of the top selling concert ticket performers in 2008, will return to play at the New York State Fair Grandstand.

Tickets for the concert, scheduled for August 28, will go on sale February 28. They will cost $65 and $55, and will be available at the Fair’s box office, at all Ticketmaster outlets and online at Ticketmaster.

Country singer Jake Owen is scheduled as the opening act.

Chesney played to 17,303 people at the Fairground’s Grandstand in 2007, breaking the previous record he’d set there in 2004.

The concert is the first announced act of the Fair’s 2009 concert series. More New York State Fair concerts will be announced as their ticket information is confirmed. Admission to the fair is free with the purchase of any concert ticket bought before the day of the show.

The 2009 Fair will run from August 27 to September 7th.
