SYRACUSE, NY - Murder suspect David Renz will not press charges after he was injured in a fight at the Onondaga County Justice Center jail. Renz’s attorney said Renz was attacked by some inmates Friday afternoon.

Renz is accused of murdering elementary school librarian Lori Bresnahan last Thursday.

The Sheriff’s Office said that although Renz’s nose was broken and his face was swollen, he will not identify anyone involved in the fight.

Investigators are looking into the situation a bit more. They want to know who started the fight, how many people were involved and why Renz was locked up with the jail’s general population.

Sheriff Kevin Walsh expects the investigation to be completed by Monday.

Renz is now in Federal custody, charged with rape, kidnapping, murder in the first degree, and murder in the second degree.

He also faces child pornography charges from 2012.

Renz was on pre-trial release when he broke his ankle bracelet before attacking Bresnahan and a 10-year-old child in the Great Northern Mall parking lot Thursday night.
