HASTINGS, NY (WSYR-TV) – The New York State Trooper who died after crashing her police cruiser in Oswego County, may have been attempting to “stop a violator” when she crashed.

New York State Police say 31-year old Amanda Anna of Liverpool suffered severe head trauma in the crash and was taken by ambulance to Upstate Hospital.  She died from her injuries at about 5:30 a.m. on Saturday.

At about 11:30 p.m. on Friday, investigators say Trooper Anna was driving a marked State Police Chevrolet Tahoe on County Route 37 in Hastings, when she lost control of the SUV on a curve.  She hit a guardrail and became airborne over a small inlet of water, causing the car to overturn several times.

Saturday evening, State Police announced “further investigation, including a review of the Automatic Vehicle Locator (AVL) tracking system, indicated Trooper Anna had been traveling west on County Route 37 then turned, changing directions, to travel east just before the crash in a possible attempt to stop a violator.”

Anyone traveling on County Route 37 in Hastings at that time is asked to contact State Police in Oneida at 366-6000.

Trooper Anna was a six-year veteran of the State Police and was assigned to the Hastings Barracks in Oswego County.

She is survived by her mother, step-father, a four-year old son and her fiance.

State Trooper Jack Keller said Anna will be missed.

"Trooper Anna was an amazing person," said Keller. "It’s going to be a very sad station. Trooper Anna was not only a great trooper, she was a great friend"

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo issued this statement Saturday:
"I send my condolences to the family and friends of State Trooper Amanda Anna who died early this morning as a result of injuries sustained from a tragic car accident last night while on duty in Oswego County. She was just 31 years old. For the six years that Trooper Anna served as a member of the State Police, she put protecting the people of the State of New York before all else. In addition to her family and friends, Trooper Anna leaves behind a fiancé - who also serves as a member of the State Police - and a four year old child. They are both in our thoughts and prayers. New York is a safer state as a result of Trooper Anna's commitment and dedication, and we mourn her untimely passing."
The crash is under investigation.
