COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) - Firefighters are making progress against the two most destructive wildfires in Colorado history.
The weather has been getting warmer and drier in Colorado Springs, but the 26-square-mile Waldo Canyon fire is 45 percent contained. It's destroyed nearly 350 homes.
More than 150 soldiers and airmen from the National Guard are helping Colorado Springs police staff roadblocks and patrol burned-out neighborhoods.
West of Fort Collins, crews say they expect to have the High Park Fire fully contained sometime tomorrow. Evacuation orders have been lifted.
The fire has scorched 136 square miles and left 259 houses in ruins. In western Colorado, the 18-square-mile Pine Ridge Fire is 10 percent contained.
About 50 residents south of De Beque have been told to evacuate. And the 300-acre Flagstaff Fire near Boulder is 80 percent contained. Crews plan to burn about 20 acres of vegetation inside the perimeter on Saturday.
