Syracuse (WSYR-TV) - A hearing to determine the fate of a popular Syracuse University-area pizza shop was held on Tuesday afternoon.

A decision will be made on the immediate future of Acropolis Pizza in about a week.

Over the past two years, the pizza shop has been the scene of a number of shootings, stabbings, and fights, as well as incidents involving drugs.

According to the nuisance law, a restaurant can be shut down for as long as a year if three or more incidents occur in which there are arrests.

The owner has made a number of changes in order to deter crime around Acropolis, including adding security guards and installing a $3,000 security camera system that police can access, along with putting up “no loitering” signs and taking additional steps to prevent the sale of alcohol to minors.

Police acknowledge that there have been no incidents since the owner added the new security measures.

Police say most of the incidents have occurred late at night. They have urged the owner to close earlier. Currently, Acropolis is open until at least 2 a.m. But police say the owner has declined to close earlier.

The final decision will be the responsibility of Syracuse Police Chief Frank Fowler.
