Utica (WSYR-TV) – Oneida County Health Department officials announced the second confirmed H1N1-related death in that county Monday. They say an adult resident who had a confirmed case died from complications of the viral infection.
In July, an adolescent resident of Oneida County who had an underlying medical condition died in a Syracuse hospital. He was Oneida County’s fifth confirmed case of the virus.
About the most recent case, Acting Director of Health Dr. Daniel W. Gilmore, said, “As in the previous case, H1N1 played a part in the death of this patient who had an underlying medical condition.”
Gilmore again urged residents to take steps to prevent the spread of H1N1 and seasonal flu by getting vaccinated, hand washing, covering coughs or sneezes, and staying home if you exhibit flu-like symptoms.
