Oneida (WSYR-TV) – Police have arrested an Oneida man who they say attacked a liquor store clerk and then turned himself in after fleeing without taking any money.

Shawn Kinsella, 27, of Wilbur Street, Oneida, was charged with attempted robbery in the first degree along with assault in the second degree, both felonies; and criminal obstruction of breathing and harassment.

Police say Kinsella entered the Glenwood Plaza Liquor Mart on Saturday and seized the cashier by the throat, threatening her with a steak knife. They say Kinsella demanded money, but the clerk backed away with the counter still between them. When Kinsella was forced to let go, he threw the knife and a liquor bottle at the cashier and ran away.

While police were patrolling the area, Kinsella allegedly called to turn himself in. Police traced the phone and found Kinsella on Glenwood Avenue.

He was arraigned and sent to Madison County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bond.
