Syracuse (WSYR-TV) - Investigators say they found a pit bull mix in the attic of a Syracuse home 25 pounds underweight and covered with urine and feces.
SPCA investigators say they responded to a home on East Genesee Street after receiving a call about the dog living in improper conditions.
SPCA volunteers say the dog's name is Coco and she is 5 years old.
Coco is being examined to make sure there are no underlying medical conditions.
Coco’s owner, Melanie Freeman, has been charged with Improper Confinement, Failure to Provide Medical Care and Failure to Provide Proper Sustenance; all misdemeanor charges.
Freeman is due back in Syracuse Criminal Court on Oct. 29.
The SPCA is asking for monetary donations along with any supplies needed for dogs and cats.
The organization says they have been short on funds this year and are attempting to take care of nearly 200 cats, 80 dogs, 2 horses and rabbits.
If you wish to donate, you can find out how by visiting the SPCA’s website
