Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – An airplane had to return to Hancock International Airport shortly after take off due to an in-flight emergency.
Hancock International officials tell NewsChannel 9 that the Delta flight was heading from Syracuse to Atlanta with the incident occurred.
They indicated that the plane landed without incident.
Passengers say the Delta flight took off late because of an issue with the plumbing in the bathroom, but it was smoke that grounded the plane.
“We took off about 15 to 20 minutes late, started flying, they said over the intercom that the coffee pot started smoking so we turned around and came back here," said passenger Michael Donaldson.
“Something very simple, and they reassured us it was nothing more than that and there was no reason to get upset or unhappy, but we were returning back just to check things out," said passenger Susan Parsons, who was in town visiting her son at Fort Drum.
Passengers say they didn’t smell or see anything and many were only upset because they missed their connecting flights.
