percocet is not used for depression. it is a pain medication. not saying that he did not become violent, but more than likely it was due to withdraws from not having it.i agree that to many people are using a mental illness as an excuse for doing things like this.

Has anybody noticed that there is alot more of the "mental illness" excuse-based violent crime since the advent of popular behavior modifying prescription drugs? It would seem that "not taking your meds" is usually only a problem for those already either addicted/habituated. Had a murder-suicide in my neighborhood a few years back. Guy stopped taking his Percocet. Percocet originally prescribed to help with his "minor" depression. Bet his wife would have wished he had taken up a new hobby instead. Might have helped with their "minor" violent death.

EXCUSE ME! WTF does video games have to do with juvenile delinqents? Do you really think this guy sat around playing video games to get this Idea? I heard the interview with his ex-mother-in-law..She said he had a troubled past and that he was on medication for a mental illness. He also just went thru bankruptcy in May..Problems mounting up and not taking meds..As for the more thorough gun purchase checks it is federal law that a three to seven day wait is required to purchase any gun except from a private citizen..and depending on where you live a coupon must be exchanged for a hand gun purchase..Which means the buyer had to get the fire arm registered before he can get it. In NY this is what happens..Now I hear its different at gun shows but I dont know by how much..I feel real bad for the families in both shootings and may they be blessed with a speedy recovery. But gun laws are not going to stop this. Arming more citizens and allowing them to carry at all times is a start at least maybe someone could have stopped this guy before it got to far..In the army baracks in texas I heard it was a civilian police woman who stopped the muslim guy..Not an MP or soldier..Why were the officers and mps not available, officers carry side arms always I believe unless things have changed..With the wars and rampant un-employment you can bet this is not the end. A gun is just a tool like a knife or a wrench..If not properly trained in its use you wil hurt yourself or someone else. Iget upset when the first thing I hear is take away the guns..There are millions of gun owners in this country and the statistics prove that less than 1/2 of 1 percent are use in crimes..The illegal guns come from Mexico with the drugs and from theft of homes..Locked or not if the criminal wants your gun he will get it..Locks are made for honest people not crooks.

In my point of view is as simple as this: why is it so easy for a person to purchase a gun in this country? Why are people so depressed and so angry? Don't tell me that it's because people don't have money so they are all going crazy because of their debts. Maybe this people should be sent to a third world country to see what to live with little money feels like and they they would apreciate a lot more what they have. The system in this country is way to crazy, everythign is too easy to be bought, even guns, people are depressed because the system gives them way too many rights and whem they are not getting what they want anymore, they go around killing people. In third world coutries, people kill people for food, for drugs and things like that, but they kill one at a time, when here, they kill a bunch of people at a time and say that it;s pecause they are depressed, B.S! Stop selling guns to everyone and also stop with the freking video games that make teenagers lock themselvs in a bedroon for days to play. Teach parents how to raise their kids so they don't become an adult like this guy!

This is a horrible thing, and my thoughts are with the families of those injured. This man (I use that term loosely), was let go 2 years ago. It's not like he came back soon after in anger. We need to know news, however I hate to see things like this getting so much publicity. It only makes the copy cat incidents occur in great numbers.

TESMAN ,You're missing my point. What you say has some merit and I don't advocate that people shouldn't have guns. I'm a gun owner myself but here's the question: where do all these "illegal guns" come from? Are "criminals" breaking into gun shops to get their guns or do they steal them from gun owners? If so, then it's the responsibility of the gun owners to make sure they secure their firearms. I'm not sure about these most recent shootings but the Virginia tech and the Binghamton shooters bought their own firearms, I believe. I just have come to the conclusion that there should be a more thorough background check on all concerned when it comes to firearms.

Tesman, I am with you on this one. It is the person that did the killing. The gun did not go off by itself. If this was a DWI case then would it be the cars fault because there are to many vehicles on our roads? When there is a stabbing is that because we have to many knives in our world? NO NO NO........ Stop blaming the guns it the idiot pulling the triger that is at fault!

someone on the AP wire needs to hire an editor. Jeez, you can barely read the article there are so many punctuation mistakes. On the serious side, I pray for the victims and their families. What a week in America.
