Canisteo (
13WHAM) -- State police say they're investigating the attempted abduction of a 10-year-old girl while she slept in her home in Steuben County.
In a press briefing Tuesday, troopers said a man, wearing a baseball cap, illegally entered an unlocked home on East Main Street in Canisteo around 3:30 a.m. Sunday.
Police say the suspect went into an upstairs bedroom and removed the girl from her bed.
The suspect carried the girl down the stairs and headed for a door, but left the home without taking the girl. The child was not hurt.
Police believe the incident was random.
