Police: Off-duty Cortland officer crashed into car, porch; charged with DWI

Cortland (WSYR-TV) – A Cortland police officer is facing DWI charges after crashing his personal car into a porch and parked car while off duty on Sunday.

Police say Patrick O’Donnell, 24, drove through an intersection on Floral Avenue and onto the property of two homes on West Main Street shortly after 10 p.m.

Police say he crashed into an unoccupied car parked in a driveway at 70 West Main Street, through shrubs and a wooden fence, and hit an enclosed porch at 72 West Main Street.

O’Donnell’s car and the parked car both had significant damage and had to be towed from the scene, police said. The porch had minor damage.

O’Donnell was charged with the following:
- Driving While Intoxicated
- Driving While Intoxicated BAC >.08
- Speed not reasonable and Prudent
- Failed to stop at Stop Sign
- Unregistered Motor Vehicle       

He was arraigned in Cortland City Court, released in his own recognizance and is scheduled to be back in court on March 29.
