Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – An Oswego County sex offender is in custody on new sex charges involving an underage boy after leading police on a car chase through the town of Cicero.
According to State Police, John Minckler, 34, of 234 Beach Rd., Cleveland, is a suspect in a case involving sexual contact with a boy under the age of 13.
When an officer approached his car, which was stopped at a Denny’s restaurant located off of Route 11 in Cicero, Minckler put his car in reverse and backed into the officer’s car before taking off.
Police say Minckler drove off on Route 11 with police in pursuit, turning onto I-481 and then Northern Boulevard and Thompson Road.
Minckler eluded police, but was later located by Town of Cicero Police on Lakeshore Road.
Police say Minckler continued to refuse to pull over until he crashed into two utility poles on Route 31.
Police took Minckler to Upstate University Hosptal after he complained about pain in his shoulder.
He was charged with:
•Predatory Sexual Assault against a Child, a class A-II felony
•Criminal Mischief 3rd, a class “E” felony
•Reckless Endangerment, a class “A” misdemeanor
•Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer, a class “A” misdemeanor
