Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – Syracuse Police have released more information the day after a pitbull attack on the city’s South Side sent three people to the hospital.

Police say when they arrived at a residence on Midland Avenue on Thursday, they discovered that three children were playing in the front yard when the dog attacked them.

When Jakia Leonard of West Colvin Street saw the attack and tried to intervene, she too was bitten.

The incident ended when one of the dog’s owners secured it inside the home.

Two of the three children – ages 3 and 5 – were taken to Upstate University Hospital. Leonard, 20, was also taken to the hospital. A 9-year-old boy who was scratched during the incident declined to be transported to the hospital.

Police don’t believe that any of the injuries are life threatening.

The dog’s owner – 29-year-old Sara Myers of Midland Avenue – turned the dog over to the animal control officer. The dog had been registered and vaccinated. No tickets have been issued.
