Verona (WSYR-TV) – State Police say an accident that injured nine people in Verona on Saturday night can be attributed to having an inexperienced driver behind the wheel and too many passengers in the vehicle.

Police say the 17-year-old driver was speeding and passing other drivers in a no-passing zone.

Although the incident occurred on Route 31 near Vernon-Verona-Sherrill High School, officials in the district say those injured weren’t students at V-V-S. Most of the students are in the Oneida City School District.

One person was transported to Upstate University Hospital. That person’s condition has not been made public.
