Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – Motorists can expect delays in the upcoming week as crews work on portions of I-81 and I-481 south of Syracuse.
The DOT announced that paving and bridge deck repairs will be performed on Southbound I-481 and Southbound I-81 beginning on Monday, Sept. 9 and are expected to continue until Thursday, Sept. 12.
The ramp from Southbound I-481 to Southbound I-81 will be closed daily from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Detours will be posted directing traffic to Northbound I-81 to Exit 17 – S. Salina Street and Brighton Avenue – where drivers can make a left turn onto East Calthrop Avenue and then another left turn to re-enter Southbound I-81.
Also beginning on Monday, Sept. 9, the right lane of the bridge carrying Southbound I-81 over Route 173 – Seneca Turnpike – will be closed around the clock and is expected to be reopened Thursday afternoon.
Southbound I-81 will be reduced to one lane (left lane open) during the repair.
The DOT says that motorists should expect delays on Southbound I-81, especially during the afternoon peak hours.
