Planned Parenthood’s Action Fund held a rally for women’s health care in Syracuse on Sunday.
It is part of the “Women are Watching” bus tour that is crossing the country to educate voters about what is at stake for women’s health care in November and mobilize them to get out and vote.
Planned Parenthood and its supporters wanted to send a clear message to “candidates and politicians like Mitt Romney, who oppose women’s health,” that women are watching and they vote.
“Politicians who would defund Planned Parenthood, as Mitt Romney has pledged to do, would deny millions of women access to birth control and cancer screenings,” said Betty DeFazio, Planned Parenthood of Rochester/Syracuse Region Action Fund Executive Director.
Speaking to NewsChannel 9 at the rally, DeFazio said "This should not be a political issue. Women's health should not be a partisan issue. Women should be able to make their own personal, private healthcare decisions.”
Democratic Congressional candidate Dan Maffei also took part in the rally. Maffei faces incumbent Republican Ann Marie Buerkle in November for New York’s 124th Congressional District seat.
