Region hit by Sandy struggles to resume daily life

NEW YORK (AP) - People in the coastal corridor battered by superstorm Sandy are trying to reclaim their routines even as rescuers comb neighborhoods looking for survivors.

New York City buses have returned to darkened streets eerily free of traffic and the New York Stock Exchange is set to reopen its storied trading floor Wednesday.

But it is clear that restoring the region to its ordinarily frenetic pace could take days. And that rebuilding the hardest-hit communities and the transportation networks that link them could take considerably longer.

Sandy killed more than 50 people along the U.S. coast and splintered beachfront homes and boardwalks up to New England.
