Remembering the shooting victims in Aurora one year later
Aurora, Colorado (KCNC-TV/WSYR-TV) - Mourners gathered Saturday in Aurora, Colorado to remember the victims of the Aurora theater shooting.
Saturday marked the one year anniversary of the deadly shooting in which police say James Holmes opened fire into a crowded movie theater killing 12 people and injuring 70 others.
Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper addressed the crowd saying "we will always remember."
The crowd stood in silence as a bell rung one time for each of the victims and the victims' names were read aloud.
Aurora Mayor Steve Hogan asked that people remember the lives forever changed by this tragedy.
The day of remembrance was an all day affair with officials asking residents to volunteer for community projects ranging from painting at a church to tending a community garden, from sorting food bank donations to donating blood.
