Rome man charged with hitting another man with a rock, knocking him unconscious
Steuben, NY (WSYR-TV) -- The Oneida County Sheriff's Office has charged 22-year-old Matthew Baker of Rome with assault after an overnight fight in the Town of Steuben.
It happened around 3:00 a.m. Saturday, at a party on Star Hill Road.
Police say Baker got in an argument with Stephan Burke, picked up a rock and struck Burke in the head with it, knocking him unconscious.
He's accused of hitting Burke several more times in the face and head. Police say Baker ran into the woods after the assault, but later turned himself in when deputies arrived at the scene.
Burke was taken to St. Luke's Hospital where he is currently being treated for face and head injuries.
