Scammer with a criminal history pleads guilty

Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – A Cicero man who scammed people out of thousands of dollars pleaded guilty on Tuesday morning.

Christopher Vanetten had been sought by the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office on a bench warrant for fraud and by State Police for grand larceny.

On Tuesday, he pleaded guilty to grand larceny and scheme to defraud.

When he is sentenced, Vanetten will face three to six years in prison.

A former NewsChannel 9 Fugitive of the Week, Vanetten was caught after a car chase through the town of Schroeppel and a brief foot chase in the village of Phoenix.

He has been arrested 17 times in the past and has spent time in state prison for fraud and larceny.
