TAMPA, FL (WSYR-TV) - More than 2,500 passengers are back on land in Florida after troubles with their Carnival cruise ship.
Carnival said there was an issue with the ship’s propulsion system, but said passenger accommodations were not compromised.
Still, this is the cruise line's fourth ship to experience troubles in less than a month.
The Coast Guard is now stepping in to investigate.
In the meantime, Senator Chuck Schumer is pushing for more protection for passengers.
He is calling on the cruise ship industry to adopt a bill of rights to guarantee certain protections that include sanitary conditions, back-up power, medical staff and more.
It would also guarantee a full refund if a trip gets canceled because of mechanical problems.
