Romulus (WSYR-TV) – A Seneca County man drowned during a boating trip Monday evening in the town of Romulus.

Seneca County Sheriff’s Investigators say Emanuel Swarey, 20, of South Street, Ovid, had gone boating just north of Deans Cove State Boat Launch with members of his family.

Swarey had left the boat at one point to go swimming. Witnesses say he was not wearing a floatation device and that he was unable to return to the boat when he disappeared from view. The incident was reported to emergency personnel at 6 p.m.

Emergency and rescue agencies responded to the call.

A little more than two hours later, Swarey’s body was recovered. He was located about 200 feet from shore in approximately 20 feet of water.

Investigators say that alcohol does not appear to be a factor.
