Oswego (WSYR-TV) – Authorities say speed was a factor in a crash that killed four men at Engles Road between County Route 7 and Rathburn Road in Oswego County Tuesday morning.
The victims have been identified as driver 19-year-old Joseph L. McCarthy, of Oswego, and passengers 20-year-old James T. Stone, 23-year-old Efrain A. Rodriguez and 23-year-old Joshua L. Schute – all of which were from Granby.
An investigation revealed that McCarthy had been traveling at a high rate of speed when his vehicle left the roadway, became airborne and struck a tree, before flipping over onto its roof, killing all four men.
Sheriff’s investigators say a highway worker discovered the scene at around 9:20 a.m.
The road, which passes through both the town of Oswego and the town of Hannibal, was closed, but has since reopened.
An investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call Inv. Matt Bray at 349-3319.
