A cold front is positioned over Great Lakes early this afternoon and is dropping southeast.  Accompanying the cold front is a pocket of chilly air in the upper atmosphere.  As the tandem move toward and through the region scattered showers and thunderstorms will develop this afternoon.  Since the air above us will become colder this afternoon, some of the thunderstorms may have some small hail.

As the system departs, noticeably cooler air will arrive later tonight and set the stage for a brisk and cool day tomorrow along with the threat for scattered showers.  Sunshine is schedule to return Friday with warmer weather this weekend.  While we still think much, if not all, of Saturday will be dry, a cold front dropping southeast may arrive in time to allow for scattered showers by sunset.  This front is forecast to still close to the region, if not move back toward us, later Sunday and next week.  Consequently, we may see a few showers Sunday (Mother’s Day).  However, were that to occur, it would likely be later in the day.
