Snow showers this aftern Tonight
A storm system stalled up over eastern Canada will continue to influence the weather over central New York through the end of the week. Weaker, smaller scale systems will rotate around this main storm, thus enhancing snow shower chances for all of Central New York. One such disturbance should impact the region later this afternoon and especially tonight/tomorrow. The arrival of the trough of low pressure will be announced with an increase in clouds this afternoon and snow showers tonight.
Additionally, winds behind this trough of low pressure will turn into the northwest. Consequently, lake effect snow showers will re-develop and affect areas farther south than earlier in the week. Collectively, most of CNY southeast of Lake Ontario will receive accumulating snow tonight and tomorrow, though mainly during the morning hours tomorrow. In fact, Lake Snow Advisories have been hoisted for tonight and tomorrow for the counties southeast of Lake Ontario, including Onondaga County.
By the weekend, our eastern Canadian storm will finally begin to loosen its grip on us and move out into the Atlantic Ocean, though not before one last trough of low pressure potentially moves through during the first half of Saturday. Eventually, we should dry out for Saturday and Sunday but don’t expect a big warm up. In fact, there our signs our temperatures will remain below normal right into next week.
For Monday and Tuesday there are still some question marks. What seems certain is a storm system will develop along the mid Atlantic coast Sunday night or Monday. Where that storm heads after that is up for debate. While some computer models bring this storm far enough north for snow in central New York, one of our more reliable models keeps it south of us during this time. We’ll keep you posted.
