Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – After several weeks of reports indicating that Syracuse University men’s basketball assistant Mike Hopkins
was among the coaches USC was considering for its top hoops spot, the Trojans have gone in a different direction. SI.com reported on Monday night
that the University of Southern California had hired Florida Gulf Coast University’s Andy Enfield fewer than 10 days after the Eagles booted the No. 2 seed Georgetown Hoyas
from the NCAA Tournament.
FGCU went on to defeat San Diego State 81-71, before falling to Florida 62-50 in the Elite Eight.
Hopkins is a native of Southern California who has been widely considered the heir apparent to SU’s Hall of Fame head coach Jim Boeheim.
Enfield was 41-28 in two seasons at FGCU.
