State budget includes increase in texting, talking on cell phone penalties
Syracuse (WSYR-TV) -- The state budget, approved on Wednesday, increases penalties for distracted drivers.
If you’re caught talking on your phone behind the wheel, the fine you face will jump to $150 for a first offense. The same penalty stands for those caught texting while driving.
If you’re caught doing either a second time, the fine will increase to up to $400.
