Albany (WSYR-TV) -- 10 people were arrested in raids of “roll-your-own” cigarette shops in the Capital Region and Hudson Valley on Thursday, according to a report posted on TimesUnion.com
Three of the shops included in the raid include: Tobacco House of Juan in Albany, Tobacco House of Xin in Ballston Spa and the Tobacco House of EA in Colonie.
The raids were conducted by the Tax Department, State Police and the Department of Homeland Security, along with local police departments.
An undercover investigation where officers purchased untaxed cigarettes earlier this year led to the raids, according to the Times Union report.
Equipment and products seized include cash, roll-your-own cigarette machines, POS computers and nearly 2,000 pounds of untaxed tobacco.
Those arrested in the raids have been charged with illegal possession of the bootleg cigarettes for the purpose of sale, and/or possessing untaxed tobacco.
