GEDDES, NY (WSYR-TV) - Nearly 80,000 people walked through the gates at the Great New York State Fair on Saturday.
That is down about 25,750 from last year. There is a good chance the heat may have had something to do with it. The high temperature on Saturday was 90 degrees.
The State Fair says it is prepared for the heat. Emergency crews are encouraging people to visit the First Aide stations behind the Horticulture Building or near the Fire Station if they feel overwhelmed by the heat.
"We have this available as a cooling station for many folks who can come in and take a break. In some cases they need to be evaluated by a physician," said Mark McEnaney of Rural Metro.
They also encourage fairgoers to wear loose fitting clothes and stay hydrated with water throughout the day.
