Syracuse (WSYR-TV) - How's this for dedication: SU students have set up camp at the Dome, anxious to get a seat in the Loud House next week.
The Orange are on their way to New York City for Saturday's game against St. John's, but some students already have their eyes set on a seat inside the Dome for Wednesday’s game against the Georgetown Hoyas.
Groups have already put up their tents and gotten in their sleeping bags, ready to wait it out.
Michael Passalacqua is in charge of the line. “They’re not many schools around the country who can do something like this. Most of them are more down south, they can't say they've camped out in below freezing weather for a basketball game for a week in advance or something like that,” he said.
The reason students camp out for days in the cold at “Boeheimberg,” as it’s called, is the first come, first serve tickets for the student section.
Putting in the time can earn you a great seat, like it did for TJ Pruden at the Florida game. “We were in the fourth row for that so it was definitely a lot of fun. Right now we're slotted to be in the first or second row,” he said.
Make no mistake, the process is very orderly. Each group puts their name on a list to keep the order, and at least one person from a group of four must be there at all times. They have tents and power to make it a little more bearable.
Josh Hamblin, who is camping out the for the first time, said, “We figure out between classes who can do when, so I'm here from about 12:30 to 2:00 when I have class, 2:20 today, but then I'll be back around 3:30 or 4:00, probably hang out tonight."
Bobby Abraham is camping out for the second time. “I think that everyone that goes here should definitely do it at least once because you're with a bunch of fans just hanging out all day when we don't have classes. Just come down here hang out with everyone."
Three hours after the end of the Georgetown game, students can start lining up again for Saturday’s game against UConn.
