Substation fire causes outage for thousands in northern suburbs
Syracuse (WSYR-TV) - Power has been restored for most of the 10,000 National Grid customers in Syracuse's northern suburbs after an overnight outage. The utility anticipates that all power should be restored by early afternoon.
Customers in the towns of Salina and Clay, along with the villages of Liverpool and North Syracuse, were affected by the outage.
A fire at a National Grid substation on Hopkins Road caused the outage.
A Liverpool Fire Department spokesman said emergency personnel could see fireballs shooting into the sky when they arrived.
They had to wait for National Grid to shut off the power before they could deal with the fire.
