Supporters rally for iconic record store in Downtown Syracuse
Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – Supporters of an iconic Downtown Syracuse record store gathered Wednesday for a rally outside of city hall.
The crowd shouted “Save Sound Garden” to show support for the record store.
A new city ordinance requires secondhand dealers like The Sound Garden to log each used item bought from a customer into a database and will compel them to hold merchandise for a week before putting it on the shelves for resale.
Shoppers and supporters of the store say the law is bogus because The Sound Garden isn’t a pawn shop and doesn’t deal in high-priced merchandise.
The store's Baltimore-based owner says the ordinance may compel them to close up their downtown shop.
He claims he is working with the city to arrive at a compromise.
