MAYVILLE, N.Y. (AP) - A Virginia man has pleaded not guilty to fatally shooting a Western New York school superintendent with ties to Central New York.

Anthony Robert Taglianetti II appeared in Chautauqua County Court on a charge of second-degree murder Wednesday, one day after being returned to New York from Virginia.

The judge set bail at $2.5 million.

Taglianetti is accused of killing of 51-year-old Keith Reed Jr. on Sept. 21. The superintendent of the Clymer school district was found shot to death outside his rural home.

Reed was previously an educator in the Sherburne-Earlville School District.

Taglianetti was arrested eight days later by U.S. Marshals in Virginia. Authorities have said that Taglianetti believed Reed was having an affair with his wife.

Taglianetti's lawyer says his client maintains his innocence. He's due back in court Jan. 28.
