Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – Police are investigating a shooting that occurred in Syracuse’s Tipperary Hill area early on Thursday morning.

The shooting occurred in the 500 block of Herkimer Street near the intersection with Avery Avenue.

32-year-old John Warren of Syracuse was in his vehicle discussing a debt with the suspect when he was shot in the back, according to police.

Warren was taken to Upstate University Hospital. After being rushed into emergency surgery, Warren remains paralyzed from the waist down and in critical condition.

The suspect was described as a black male in his late teens or early 20s with a short and slender build.

During the incident, he was wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt.
